5" X 8.5" spiral bound calendar, packaged in a custom designed gift box, featuring my modern botanical artwork. Produced 2002 - 2012, with an upcycled edition for 2015.
The Herman Yu Design calendar was valued for its artwork, simplicity, compact size, custom debossed/die-cut gift box, extra thick paper, and overall impeccable quality and craftsmanship. The calendar was sturdy enough to stand up on a desk.
Herman Miller ordered a custom version of the calendar for 8 years. They were used as corporate gifts and sales amenities.
At the end of 2014, a loyal customer asked if I had any 2009 calendars available because the sequence of days for 2015 would be the same . . . by chance, I did have some inventory so I upcycled my 2009 calendar by adding a sticker with future repeating years.
For 8 years, Herman Miller ordered custom editions of my calendar for corporate gifts and sales amenities.
For the 2006 calendar, they requested a few custom monthly images so I spent several days in Michigan meandering through the grounds of three properties to photograph the native plants for inspiration. The images combined architectural details and plants from their iconic buildings, Green House, Design Yard, and Marigold Lodge.
ICFF 2004 - Jacob Javits Center New York
The brief was to create the look of an inside/outside home using the view of eucalyptus trees when looking out from the Eames House in Pacific Palisades, CA. I lived in Los Angeles at the time so Eames Demetrios, the grandson of Charles Eames, opened up the house for me to photograph the trees.
I created two window panels and one wood slat panel that were repeated around the perimeter of the booth. After ICFF, these panels traveled to showrooms for temporary installations.
GreenHouse Showroom Holland MI - installed in 2004 and in place for over 2 years.
I created the artwork for the Resolve Office System showroom panels. The panel textiles can be digitally printed so each client can create a unique environment.
The archival prints have been installed in many private residences and public environments including:
Delta Airlines Narita and SeaTac lounges, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, Group Health, Herman Miller Healthcare showroom and advertisements, and medical offices.
Layered Vines - Digital Glass Portfolio 2013
The Digital Glass Portfolio featuring 8 artists/designers, won the NeoCon Gold prize in 2 categories - Surfacing Materials/Finishes and Wall Treatments.
The design is 8 ft X 12 ft, with the horizontal repeat at 12 ft.
Layered Vines is easily scaled, cropped, and recolored. It has been installed in numerous healthcare facilities.

Color specifications, styling, and merchandising for AP Fashions in Calcutta, India. The company wanted to adapt and re-color their existing apparel line for the residential and hospitality interiors market.
Ten light pole banners installed along Hiawatha Place S (between S Dearborn & S Charles) in August 2015.
Project included: historical research, art+design development, copy writing, designing promotional materials, project management.
Ten light pole banners for the Jackson Place Business Association with funding from the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods to mark a new arts & business corridor.
PURPLE BLOCKS - inspired by the Hiawatha Belt - symbolize community and commerce. Purple is the color of the wampum shells used to create the belt.
MAP GRAPHIC - represents the continually changing transportation infrastructure that is a prevailing influence, good and bad, in the neighborhood’s development.
BOTANICALS - Star of Bethlehem, Fennel, Fig, Fava Beans, Plums - sybolize the neighborhood’s rich multicultural and agricultural history. These plants grow as hardy perennials in the neighborhood. The underlying outline pattern references building and garden plans.
